Welcome to my online portfolio.
My name is Andrew McDonald. I am a journalism student at the University of Stirling, Scotland. Writing has gripped me from a young age, and I have been told I have a ‘real flair’ for it by numerous individuals. This, together with a love of music, has inspired me to follow a career in the media.
I began writing reviews for fun after attending my first concert as a young teenager – Iron Maiden at the SECC in Glasgow. Soon after, I started submitting reviews to my town’s local newspaper. I have since pursued the role of a journalist to undergraduate level and beyond. I currently work freelance when such opportunities arise, and also contribute to Ragnarök Radio, the leading heavy metal podcast in Scotland and North England.
I have had the pleasure of seeing several hundred bands of varying genre perform live, from AC/DC to ZZ Top, and have had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing members of acts such as The Wildhearts, Murderdolls, The Zico Chain and more. I am also involved in the live music scene as a performer in my own outfit, an occasional organiser and promoter of Glasgow gigs, and as a DJ, my most notable appearance being at the world famous Download Festival at Donington Park. I also have experience in live radio.
Ideally, I would like to find paid work with a magazine or similar form of media – be it freelance or as hired staff. I hope you enjoy looking at what I have on offer on these pages, and look forward to hearing from anyone who stops by.
- Andrew
PS. I would also like to thank Mark ‘Value’ Morris for hosting my work on his website.
